What is tepehuaje tree?

The Tepehuaje tree, scientifically known as the Tabebuia chrysantha, is a deciduous tree that belongs to the Bignoniaceae plant family. It is native to Mexico and Central America. The tree can grow up to a height of 20 meters and has a dense crown of leaves. The leaves are compound, with five to seven leaflets, and are shed during the dry season.

The Tepehuaje tree is known for its beautiful yellow flowers that bloom during the dry season, which is also why it is commonly called the Golden Trumpet Tree. The flowers are trumpet-shaped and can grow up to 10 centimeters long. They are known to attract pollinators like bees, butterflies, and birds.

The Tepehuaje tree is used for different purposes, including the production of timber, furniture, and ornamental purposes. It is also known for its medicinal properties and is used to treat different ailments like asthma, rheumatism, and fever. The bark of the tree is used for its anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties.

The Tepehuaje tree is vulnerable to deforestation due to its high demand for timber and agricultural expansion. However, initiatives are being taken to conserve this tree species by creating protected areas and promoting sustainable forestry practices.
